There’s a silence in the room It’s a sound we’ve never heard before An inflammatory parade of unfamiliar times An embellished afternoon A rose beside the reservoir A capillary remains to seal the widened tie Please don’t let me go home tonight Facing backwards, moving forth That’s when we’ll finally meet again Opposing our terrain in these new familiar times Oh, the pillar of our cord The courage for the weakening On the precipice of fall, you know you’re stable in my arms Please don’t let me go home tonight Please don’t let me go home tonight Please don’t let me go home tonight Please darling, don’t let me go home And we say the overconformity really demands brothers in decent post-natal, scenic buildings using women averaging genetic provisional pandas, splendidly and crookedly measuring grandiose infectious retaliating hoverflies, inflaming behaviour tubes of cystic photographs You can’t let me go home, don’t let me go home You can’t let me go home, don’t let me go home You can’t let me go home, don’t let me go home You can’t let me go home Because I’m already here I’m already here I’m already here I’m already here

City Walls 04:24
It felt like it was such a long and distant time ago But it’s merely been a month and yet the indications show As you stare… through your… window The elevator to your room is cramped and turns you ill The speed and greed is untoward so you recall the stillness As you stare… out there… below The sun don’t shine on the streets of crime You’re living in the city walls It was only time but you’re now confined To living in the city walls No the sun don’t shine on the streets of crime You’re living in the city… living in the city walls This urban institution with its tainted, spiteful air Central to suburbia, community widespread Past the rural limits and the barren countryside Finally you’ll come to see the land so free and wild Potential for a whole lot more Just step outside the city walls Just free your eye, diversify And step outside the city walls Potential for a whole lot more Just step outside the city… you gotta step outside The city walls… city walls… city walls… City walls… city walls… city walls… There’s a new-found road to aspire for truth Of what you thought you’d known and desired in your youth With your small-town mind and your small-town soul Now paralysed by city life as you recall The happiness in your back yard The peace inside your reservoir Of what you know is already there Rediscover undercover and reject The city walls… city walls… city walls… Now you’re not so blind with your open mind You’ve stepped outside the city walls You found the time to release confines Of living in the city walls Yeah you’re not so blind with your open mind You’ve stepped outside the city… stepped outside the city walls

You don’t know intuition like the dark don’t know the sun And what’s not known is fabricated firm Trust my premonition of the hours having won And settling in A dormant revolution lies awaiting birth to come But what’s not known’s still fabricated firm An evil eye, a parasite, my powers are overcome And settling in Lacking the days of karma, you bought the wine instead How can you be happy with that cloud above your bed? Packing the days to follow with drips of congo red Still I lie to satisfy that cloud above your bed Lacking the days of karma Lacking the days, and you’re a lucky girl An instant satisfaction has been paid for one of loss The doorway to your mind is through my steel A doubtful superstition has refrained to bear the cost And settles in Lacking the days of karma, you bought the wine instead How can you be happy with that cloud above your bed? Packing the days to follow with drips of congo red Still I lie to satisfy that cloud above your bed Lacking the days of karma Lacking the days And you’re a lucky girl, girl You’re a lucky girl, girl Lacking the days of karma, you bought the wine instead How can you be happy with that cloud above your bed? Packing the days to follow with drips of congo red Still I lie to satisfy that cloud above your bed Oh yeah you’re lacking the days of karma, shadow up ahead The bat is blind but leaves behind a cloud above your bed Lacking the days of karma, you feed them all instead With your colossal power to your cloud above my bed Oh yeah you’re lacking the days of karma Lacking the days, and you’re a lucky girl, girl Oh yeah you’re lacking the days of karma Lacking the days And you’re a lucky girl, girl You’re a lucky girl, girl

Leicester Square I stand here and it takes me to the place You are Right now Anywhere Between these iron frames there lies a gate To your heart Right now Leicester Square The film that stars the characters of us Cast of gold And red Premiered Amidst the perfect playwright in the sun As we strolled Ahead But ever since your resignation I’ve been looking for a soul to steal Cause you still had mine when I left you And all I see as I sit here’s This box in my location That separates the dream from real It’s time we felt our love There’s so much to discover here in Leicester Square Leicester Square The moon it sets on water while the trees Glow blonde Entwined Overhead The nightclubs beat the blackened skies away Beyond Your shine Ever since your resignation I’ve been looking for a soul to steal Cause you still had mine when I left you And all I see as I sit here’s This box in my location That separates the dream from real It’s time we felt our love There’s so much to discover here in Leicester Square Standing here together here in Leicester Square Hands are bound and hearts are near in Leicester Square Standing here together here in Leicester Square Why can’t we be together here in Leicester Oh take me there Hands are bound and hearts are near in Leicester Yeah take me there Standing here together here in Leicester Oh take me there Why can’t we be together I stand here and it takes me to the place You are Right now

Overthrown 03:59
It’s cold enough in this town without you by my side I’m feeling I’ve overthrown, delivered way too wide Draw a breath, melt your lips, shake your hair, blow a kiss With your circular smile and an elegant pitch Roll the ball in reverse cause I ain’t too far behind Lean away, look above for you’re capable of A sustain to your soul through the rhythm of love Toss a pill of our praise if I ain’t too misaligned Overthrown, I’m on my way Should have known I’d passed my stay All I own, I’ve thrown away Overthrown, you’ll catch someday The beauty of innocence, I remember wishfully Now it’s cast out in the street, it’s all part of history Take a ride in a world of a passionate girl You’re alive by the spark of a flame with a twirl It’s a dual catapultion, inspired by one There’s an odour of grace, an invisible race A returned emanation entangles my face Fuelled by propulsion, a drive of charm Overthrown, I’m on my way Should have known I’d passed my stay All I own, I’ve thrown away Overthrown, you’ll catch someday I’ve been breaking, breaking down Won’t you wake up to my sound I’m over shakin’ up this ground I’m on my way It’s cold enough in this town without you by my side I’m feeling I’ve overthrown…

Misty Water 04:44
Across the misty water In his hold along the ancient stream With a kiss he taught her How the weather, it’s a love extreme Bitter misty water Such a distance from her blazing dream With a twist he taught her How with cold there often dawns a steam Life’s a mystery tangle There’s a rainbow over cloudy shores Prism snaps an angle And a colour from a pearl outpours Hear the birds a-whistling Through a territory conspired with snow Steer their world by shifting With the feathers of a common glow So you can drink the misty water The deep exists as he still taught her Yeah you can drink the misty water The fever missed but he still caught her He wants to be With nobody else, in the penetrating freeze He’s just gotta show That in this world full of contradiction You sit back, and let pass, and hold on And watch the river flow Pass the misty water And precipitated chill unseen Here exists a shelter In a place that’s only warm So you can drink the misty water The deep exists as he still taught her Yeah you can drink the misty water The fever missed but he still caught her You can drink the misty water You can drink it You can drink the misty water Oh cup your hands and dip in to show You can drink the misty water You can drink it You can drink the misty water

Lay me down in fields of green The summer sun, it tastes as sweet as you Fruits and flowers surround our dream Our wish for native beauty has come true Grounded now, I heard you spoke Your burrowed seeds, your barren throat Godforsaken tears, they choke from you Our undergrowth is drying up And I’ve had enough of this Photosynthetic mindfuck Burn it down, the branches wasting Ashen ground incineration Leaves of brown reciprocating Resin from our hearts Wrath of life reduced to stumps A hand for hand, a trunk for trunk It’s killing me, the tree that took my love Developmental antidote Emerges in a heartfelt note to you A final chance to cast my vote Of grafting and of germinating too I’ll rub the stem, create the spark You skin my name, I’ll ring your bark Seeds the girdling end of fertile hope Burn it down, the branches wasting Ashen ground of expiration Leaves of brown reciprocating Resin from our hearts The rising flame my only hope A sacrificial fire of growth It’s killing me, the tree that took my love The tree that took my love The tree that took my love The tree that took my love… The tree that took my love The tree that took my love The tree that took my love… Clotted cells my heart will pump Heavy swell, my sap will clump If the canopy is free I’m jumping down The tree that took my love The tree that took my love The tree that took my love… The tree that took my love The tree that took my love The tree that took my love… The tree that took my… The tree that took my love

Comet 03:48
I’m so susceptible to those who build a hallway in my mind Blown up material retains in there forever There’s not a chance in hell I’ll exit through the doorway without One more time where we entwine our flaming tails together Caught up in crowns and ends and halos by the choir of our Beating drums as we become a subdivided flow The mystery deepens as you leave a trail of fire and I can’t die No I can’t die So young with open eyes Closed while we improvise Fading away as the Years pass and I can’t die I can’t die ’til you come round again Out on the street tonight the people dance in celebration Of the journey, seventy-five years Is all I have to prove myself I am not a failure at this game And I can’t die with that, oh lord So young with open eyes Closed while we improvise Fading away as the Years pass and I can’t die I can’t die ’til you come round again No I can’t die ’til you come round again You’re my comet, you’re my life Come around before I die You’re my comet, you’re my life Come around before I die So young with open eyes Closed while we improvise Fading away as the Years pass and I can’t die I can’t die ’til you come round again No I can’t die ’til you come round again

The Fighter 03:32
Oh the fighter with his heaven in his heart and his hell to behold His desire is to remedy the scar of the flame to her soul Oh denier with the heaviness imparted he dreams he could change Cruel reminders of the innocence of love vs the means to remain Persevere Through your tears Learn your lesson well Oh the hour, will it speed or will it burn with a laboured old fuse Not an answer to the plead, a deafly ear and a reason to lose Oh the fighter will he stay or will he stray far away from his means All the while through her silence and his tears he will conquer with the thrill of her nightmares Oh the fighter Oh the fighter Oh the fighter Oh the fighter Oh the fighter Oh the fighter Oh the fighter Oh the fighter Oh the fighter will end it before it’s repaired The fighter surrenders and shows that he cares The fighter will end it before it’s repaired The fighter surrenders and shows that he cares Oh the fighter will end it before it’s repaired The fighter surrenders and shows that he cares The fighter will end it before it’s repaired The fighter surrenders and shows that he cares

This bag of hearts, this tender vale We’ll pick the berries as the mud gets in our nails And it’s no barrier, as we hold hands when we walk home By the bed I brush you down as we brush up our own We’ll paint your four grey walls of gold We’ll evade this frozen world and journey far away from all we know Down the river we will ride Archetypes of yesteryear, flow as we float by And I’m a stranger to this voice in favour of all that we’ve done Now we can run, we’ll get there We’ll paint your four grey walls of gold We’ll evade this frozen world and journey far away from all we know In these four grey walls of gold Speak to me your fantasy, let’s journey far away to spend a… A thousand days beneath the sun A thousand ways to show we’ve won So many reasons to deceive the dusty moon A thousand seas by which it feeds the ebb and bloom Multiply by sixteen and add three hundred and ninety-six Divide the ebb, ensure the bloom’s the sum A thousand days beneath the sun Yeah just make sure it’s not the ebb that comes A thousand days beneath the sun

Just rest and breathe And close your eyes but keep your mind from sleep And hear Me talk you through Your feet, and your legs And your body, chest and neck And your arms, now your head So heavenly You’re alone, no one here Just the golden sun and the tender auburn sand Feel the waves Lap at your feet Now you walk, miles of peace As your soft, warm skin’s enveloped by the breeze And you bathe In this atmosphere In the dusk, up ahead An oasis of a magical degree You can sense Him standing there Closer still, purely drawn As the golden-orange sunset lights the sky You have reached Your destiny Then you move into my arms which I have joyously extended for you, and I greet the beauty in front of me that I have long been awaiting. Our eyes catch and delve deeply as we hold each other tightly, embracing under the shimmering, starlit evening sky. Gently, I whisper in your ear… There’s nothing left to ask There’s nothing left to fear There’s nothing left to try To prove how much I cherish you There’s nothing in this world But a universal prayer To reach my arms around you From the edges of despair From all that lives and breathes To matter with no path From geologic entities To insubstantial marks There’s nothing in this world But a universal prayer To tell you how much This love would mean to me To tell you how much This love would mean to me To tell you how much This love would mean to me

If romance beckoned, like we sensed with our predestination If real life offered passion, bliss and fun If love we’d birthed, across the earth I’d take you on vacation If only… this is what we would have done: We’d spend the day at Byron Bay, the soaring house aglow We’d walk for miles in the springtime sun Astoundingly across the sea, the dolphins stage a show If only… this is what we would have done The paradisal stretch upon where surfers bear their joy Percussive skins with bells like beating drums Synchronic and eurhythmic like a golden girl to boy If only… this is what we would have done Stranded on a summer night, the bay of roses bound The rock is cold, the sweetness pads our tongues Traverse a thrill atop the hill, above precinctual sounds If only… this is what we would have done Amidst the virgin bush we trek, we grace the stream alone The tree above proclaiming us as one The water blue, just me and you, a place to call our home If only… this is what we would have done Further north we venture now, the tropic impulse starts Inspires a humid zeal within our lungs The forest green, the beach pristine, adjoining like our hearts If only… this is what we would have done The culmination of our time spent in this sacred land Encompasses a safe, yet stirring plunge We reach beneath the coral reef, elation, hand in hand If only… this is what we would have done So we’d leave behind the frosty vales, the frigid, foggy nights A source of temperate union we’d become Living, loving, in Australia, if I weren’t such a fucking failure If only… that was not what I’d become If only… this is what we would have done

Nineteen fifty five, Young man, feel so alive Ballroom star But the greatest honour, biggest prize, Was the beauty of my partner’s eyes Lovers hearts Married soon, the night results In an overwhelming bridal waltz Tears of bliss Together moving everywhere So perfectly, our rhythm shared Swinging hips ’64, rock ‘n’ roll On the floor, allegro With my wife ’71, world’s unsure Marched off to the Vietnam war Fight for life For weeks at a time on the battlefront line Only memories holding us near I picture the scene where she gives up the dream Cause a life without love turns to fear Then the telegram comes after months on the run Choreographic union unclear With me in her arms She’d never have been in harms way I wish it was me who’d moved on ’79, ’86 Lost without her sweet kiss Moving slow ’91, ’94 Music’s not the same no more And I’m getting old Enter the millennium I try to find my legs again It’s been so long I met her at the RSL The memories of my sweet girl Stir so strong She faced a similarity In losing him while overseas Widowed young It’s clear we felt our hearts unite As we danced with the band tonight But is it wrong That dancing with Dot reminds me a lot Of the wife I once had now long gone With me in her arms Reminds her of charms of her man I wish that we’d both just move on Why can’t we both just move on I wish that we’d both just move on Why can’t we both just move on I wish that we’d both just move on Move on Move on Move on Cause dancing with Dot reminds me a lot Of the wife I once had now long gone With me in her arms Reminds her of charms of her man I wish that we’d both just move on

My name is James And her name is Georgie A calendar year’s gone by so far Her beautiful smile The brightest in Sydney A scene that’ll never fall apart We come here today To manifest our love Below the foundations of this land The heads of the times They reside above We pray that our wish forms their command We paint our names Here at Lady Gowrie Lookout Georgie & James Here at Lady Gowrie Lookout A year today And it will be forever We’ll soak our feet As we sign our story By this cool and peaceful bay But we’re up to nothing at all For the pass of the ferry We’ll cover our marks and we will wave As we paint our names Here at Lady Gowrie Lookout Georgie & James Here at Lady Gowrie Lookout A year today And it will be forever A year today And it’ll be a time to face behind And look back on the past Prize the ways on which we’ve gained And survey what we’ve lost If we find our old live sign has Tapered from those rocks We’ll return We will return We will return They last a few years Never a lifetime We tire and seek a fresh new start But we’ll interfere If this becomes of us We’ll go back with our paint and touch it up And repaint our names Here at Lady Gowrie Lookout Georgie & James Here at Lady Gowrie Lookout A year today And it will be forever A year today And it will be forever

about

Australia has a unique tradition in musical storytelling. With icons of the craft like Paul Kelly and Kev Carmody leading a generation of talented young Aussie raconteurs, theirs are footsteps followed with pride.

Young acoustic storyteller Dan Schaumann exhibits no shortage of pride in his roots. The vigor and humility with which he shares his experiences in song are overshadowed only by his talent with a guitar. An endearingly idiosyncratic lyricism strikes up an instant rapport with his instrument’s lament. Essential to every storyteller, Dan has a knack for effortlessly pulling the listener into his world.

Having cut his musical teeth on the sidewalks and bars of Townsville and Brisbane, guitar in hand, Dan followed his heart to London. A world away from all that had shaped him into the writer and performer he was, he reveled in the rich British folk scene. New creative sparks ignited under its influence in the void left by the distinct Australian sounds of home.

A tale of two worlds colliding intimately and geographically, Dan Schaumann’s debut album, A Thousand Days Beneath the Sun, is an extraordinary journey into the experiences of a contemporary traveler. From lost love to found feet, toppled dreams to open doors, Dan’s attitude to life is as infectious as the songs he draws from it. Refreshingly honest and heartfelt, with that unmistakable Aussie lilt, each of the album’s thirteen tracks is a stepping stone that leads the listener full circle by story’s end.

Produced in Australia by James North and released in late 2011, A Thousand Days Beneath the Sun is an accomplished first chapter in this young storyteller’s musical journey. The album can be purchased from leading digital retailers worldwide and from www.schaumann.com.au.
